Royal Blood – How Did We Get So Dark?

It feels like forever since Royal Blood bursted out on the music scene and now they have released their second studio album, How Did We Get So Dark?

royal-blood.jpgThere was a lot of pressure surrounding this release coming off the back of their debut self titled album after it achieved massive success selling over 65,000 copies in the first week alone and taking them all over the world, seriously how do you follow up from all that?

Royal Blood have proven with ‘How Did We Get So Dark?’ that they mean business creating a more heavier sound to their music, not metal but just really heavy rock. Both Mike Kerr (Vocals/Bass) and Ben Thatcher (Drums) have stepped up their game, this record shows a big change in their songwriting capabilities, tracks such as ‘Lights Out’ and ’Hook, Line & Sinker’ show that this band are capable of writing massive arena rock anthems.

I Only Lie When I Love You, Hole In Your Heart and Look Like Your Know, are tracks that have a Queens Of The Stone Age vibe to them and these track do help reflect that influence that the band has had on them, Mike Kerr has mentioned in the past how QOTSA have been an influence for Royal Blood’s music.

How Did We Get So Dark? proves that Royal Blood’s debut album wasn’t just a one off and now that this band mean business, writing bigger and even better rock tunes and they are taking this heavier/radio friendly rock sound in the right direction.
